Shaun Spurgeon

SHAUN SPURGEON was born in Alabama and lives in Glendale, New York. Abstraction, as a word, implies a stylistic language widely used and narrowly understood. Abstraction, as an experience, is what is unknown but perceivable. The former refers to painting as a limited vehicle and the latter to art as an unattainable destination. Hence the attempt, or braying of the artist as an ass, to awake the possibilities in life amid the chaos of living. The Braying of an Ass is inspired by the painting The Feast of the Gods by Italian Renaissance painter Giovanni Bellini with additions by Rosso Rossi, Titian and a pheasant in a tree by the patron Alfonso.
