Art gives meaning to our lives and helps us understand our world. – Norman Foster
Art has no rules. It can make you surprised or perplexed or thrilled. It can open dialogue, evoke emotion and challenge paradigms. Hearst has sponsored the ART NOW show in our Hearst Tower Galleries for almost a decade. This special showing of working artists has extended the Hearst community’s ongoing exploration and appreciation of new thoughts, new visions, new realities.
As Gil Maurer once said, “These exhibits are a tribute to the solitary and fearless souls who face down blankness, answer only to themselves and create something that pleases themselves first and foremost. Whatever their hesitations or doubts, however great the challenges they face, artists make a move. We may not always appreciate the results—taste still applies—but there is no denying the result and the bravery involved. And that is, perhaps, what’s most inspiring of all.”
Art can push boundaries and challenge norms. It keeps changing, evolving and creating a rich tapestry of introspection and inclusion. Art is the creative catalyst that has the potential to spark conversations and provoke innovation to shape our world.

“ART NOW” generally refers to contemporary art, the art being created in the present time or the recent past. It encompasses a wide range of artistic practices, styles and media that reflects current cultural, social, political and technological trends. This term often highlights art that engages with present day issues, ideas and aesthetics, often pushing boundaries and challenging traditional definitions of art. — CHATGPT
Almost ten years ago, Gil Maurer spearheaded a show titled ART NOW that I curated for the Norman Foster-designed Hearst Tower. The ART NOW shows have provided employees and visitors the opportunity to experience a variety of compelling artworks by a diverse group of artists and subject matter, working in many different media. These shows are part of the ambiance that fosters the creative spirit of Hearst and hopefully elicits unique personal responses from the Hearst community.
We wish to thank the artists and galleries who have so generously allowed us to exhibit this work and my thanks to the Hearst team for their efforts and support.
